The aim of the research was to review soil characteristics as well as content of the essential oil and his main constituents in the Juniper berries (Juniperus communis L.) found. The following research sites with different altitude were monitored: Kišovce (667 m a.s.l.), Chrámec (185 m a.s.l.), Priechod (576 m a.s.l.), Horné Lazy (470 m a.s.l.), Selčianske sedlo (749 m a.s.l.) and Iliaš (440 m a.s.l.). In most locations, the soil was characterized by a neutral soil reaction, with a high content of humus and nitrogen (N), a low to very low content of phosphorus (P), a good to a high content of potassium (K) and a very high content of magnesium (Mg). The soil acidity was very high at the Chrámec. The higher content of essential oil was in the fruits of juniper harvested in 2020. The increase was 4-fold higher at the Kišovce and at the Horné Lazy increased 3.5-fold. The content of essential oils ranged from 1.1 % in the locality of Iliaš to 2.2 % at the Chrámec. In 2017, at the Kišovce was determined by the essential oil content of 0.5 % and the relative α-pinene content was 62 %. There was an increase in essential oil content to 2.1 %, in 2020, but the relative α-pinene content reached only 32 %. The soil reaction showed a moderately positive correlation with the content of α-pinene (r = 0.5079) and a low correlation between the contents of essential oils, sabinene and βmyrcene. The content of essential oil correlated negatively with the medium degree of dependence with the content of α-pinene (r = -0.5005).
