The authors studied the structure and dynamics of natural forests of the Tatra National Park (Tatra Biosphere Reserve). On the basis of the results of research conducted in the study area in the Furkotska dolina valley, compared with the areas studied by Professor Priesol and Professor Korpel in the Nefcerka valley, they characterize the conditions for natural succession of the three coniferous species in the spruce vegetation zone. Forests in the spruce vegetation zone have been greatly influenced by human activities, mainly from grazing in the past. Remnants of the natural forests have a very high ecological function, which is very closely connected with the specific forest structure. This structure is also stable in the smaller areas and the major characteristics are unchanged.
